Salt Lake City Recap

Salt Lake City was beautiful and the Professional Management Conference was great! I met some awesome genealogists like Kenyetta Berry, Kelvin Meyer, Michael McCormick, Rick Fogalty and Thomas MacEntee just to name a few. They each offered me some useful research as well as career advice which I greatly appreciated. A couple of the conference sessions I attended were, Mind Maps for Genealogy, a mind map is a diagram which could be used for brainstorming ideas and organize information. Genealogist Ron Arons demonstrated some ways mind mapping could be used for genealogical purposes like organizing genealogy finding for an ancestor. Click here for mini Mind Mapping tutorial. I also attended Organizing Your Research and Writing with Scrivener,  Scrivener is a word processor as well as project management program used to aid  writers to arrange text, images, PDFs,web pages, audio and video files. Kimberly Powell gave us a lesson on the software and why she thinks it’s a great tool for genealogists like herself. Click here for mini Scrivener tutorial

With the little free time I had in Salt Lake City visited the Family History Library, once I walked in I was greeted by friendly patrons. I was led into this viewing room where I watched a five minute video about the library, it’s holdings, what was on what floor and how to go about starting my research. Once I finished the video I was greeted by another patron who immediately started assisting me, everyone that I encountered at the Family History Library were really helpful, I wish I more time to research and tour the library but I do plan to go back…when it’s warmer 😉

I said I would travel to Salt Lake City, Utah one day but this day has sooner than I thought. If you didn’t know  Salt Lake City is  the mecca of genealogy research and I am going there to attend the Association of Professional Genealogists: Professional Management Conference. I am excited and nervous at the same time, I am going to be around some of the genealogist I admire as well as visit The Family History Library which is holds millions of genealogical records from all over the world. I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures of my trip.

I had the pleasure of being an exhibitor at this years National Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society conference in Pittsburgh, PA. I met and spoke with AAHGS members from all over the United States, I also intended a few very interesting as well as informative sessions with National AAHGS President Tamela Tenpenny-Lewis, Timothy Pinnick,Tony Burroughs, and Michael Williams. Below are a few pictures of some of the exhibitors.
