I was reading an article on tribstar.com and it mentioned BYU’s genealogy tv show called Relative Race. Have any of you heard or watched it? I only saw the first few minutes of the first episode but what I saw seemed pretty interesting. The premise of the show is four couples start off  in San Francisco and they’ll have to complete challenges in order to  meet a new DNA relatives each day for 10 days across the United States. They will have to navigate without using smart phones or GPS devices. The couples will be given road maps and burner phone (phones with not internet access).  Their final arrival point was New York City on day 10 and the first couple who arrives will win $25,000. Below is the trailer for the first series and a link to the first episode

Vlog #2

I promise these will get better :). The point of this Vlog is to let people know although DNA is great and it will not replace actual research that needs to be done to research your ancestry. I got so caught up with trying to connect with DNA cousins that I stopped actually researching, for me DNA should be an aid to the research I have done.

Starting her off young

Young Genealogist

A few weeks ago my 11 year old niece expressed interest to me about taking her DNA, so I was more than willing to purchase an ancestryDNA kit for her once it went on sale :). My niece also told me she wanted to make a nice family tree, we setup a familysearch.org account and got to work. Her paternal side was basically done but I did’t know much about her maternal side to help input the information.  I told her to give her mother, grandparents, and great grandparents a call to get some the informations she needed.  There was no hesitation on her part, she picked up the phone and started dialing, I was impressed she was that interested in learning her history at a young age. I wish someone would have had me do this at her age. In a few weeks we’ll know her results and hopefully add more names to her family tree.
