I’ve found so much from newspapers like obituaries, birth and marriage announcements, information regarding court cases, land transfers, local event news and much more.  Newspapers give me a better idea of what my ancestor’s lives during the times especially when newspapers when other records are few and far between.

  1. One of my county courthouses was destroyed by fire, destroying marriage records from 1870-1892. The local newspaper printed the dates of marriages, which was a blessing to my research.

  2. Like you, I have found a wealth of family information in newspapers. Newspapers are the single best source for family information, that I have found.
