Artensie Wesley Cox

My grandmother Artensie “Tense” Wesley was the second eldest child born to Lonnie Wesley and Mary Jane Burgess in Natchez, Monroe County, Alabama. Artensie moved to Bay Minette, Alabama in the early 1940s where she and her husband Jesse Cox raised four children. Once moving to Bay Minette she became a devoted and active member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. Artensie served as a Sunday school teacher, and would later become the president of the Senior Choir and member of the Senior Missionary Department. Artensie assisted in establishing “The Young Women’s Club”. The Church now has a “Family and Friends Day” which also bears her name.
